Postdoc in Optimal Operation and Management of Cross-Sectoral Flexibility in Multi-Energy Systems

Danmarks Tekniske Universitet (DTU)

Ph.d. project
East Zealand

Frist 27. september 2017

The Center for Electric Power and Energy at the Department of Electrical Engineering seeks a Postdoc in Optimal operation and management of cross-sectoral flexibility in Multi-Energy Systems. The period of employment is 2 years. The position is funded by the Sino-Danish project “Enhancing wind power integration through optimal use of cross-sectoral flexibility in an integrated Multi-Energy System” that aims at enhancing wind power integration through optimal use of cross-sectoral flexibility in an integrated wind-electricity-heat-gas system where the flexibility options are ingrained in both the energy infrastructures and the customer side.

Responsibilities and tasks
The Postdoc will be part of a team working in the area of integrated energy systems and is expected to contribute to development of optimal operation and management strategies for multi-energy systems in which electricity, heat and gas (optional) subsystems interact with each other at various levels (for instance, within a district, city or region) in order to address issues of wind power integration.

The developed strategies should comply with one of the future energy market ideas where the flexibility options found in a multi-energy system (for instance, energy storage and power reduction) can be developed into a market product and traded between different market players to meet the requirements of different energy system services. Further, the developed solutions should be based on a thorough understanding of the dynamics of a multi-energy system (especially for power distribution and district heating) and the operational criteria of each sub-energy system.

Qualifications
Candidates should hold a PhD degree or equivalent. Candiates are expected to have strong background in at least one of the following areas:

  • Modelling of electricity and district heating systems
  • Operation and control of electrical distribution systems and district heating systems
  • Programming, e.g. MATLAB, Modelica/Dymola or Python

Personal skills

  • goal oriented
  • able to work individually as well as in teams and on larger projects
  • extrovert and showing initiative
  • a good communicator in English, both orally and in writing

Assessment

  • Scientific production
  • Experience in participation in research and innovation projects
  • Experience with project management and fund raising
  • Experience and interest in teaching
  • Experience in dissemination
