Postdocs in Urban Transport Logistics

Danmarks Tekniske Universitet (DTU)

Ph.d. & forskning
Storkøbenhavn

Frist 1. februar 2018

The Department of Management Engineering (DTU Management Engineering) at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) invite applications for two Postdoc positions in the area of urban transport logistics and electric mobility. The Postdoc will be a part of the EUFAL research project funded by the Horizon 2020 ERA-NET programme on ”Electric Mobility Europe” (EME).

The overall purpose of the EUFAL research project is to define measures and policies to promote the use of electric vehicles in city logistics (commercial transport). This includes electrification of existing vehicle fleets in logistics systems, and optimisation of these systems towards the use of electric vehicles. The project seeks to develop a platform for the exchange of knowledge and experience for actors within industry, policy and research.

DTU Management Engineering contributes actively to the development of management tools and optimisation of processes, through innovative, competitive and sustainable organisation and use of technologies within areas such as energy and climate, transportation, production and health. The Postdocs will be part of the division of Management Science at DTU Management Engineering. The division for Management Science is internationally recognised for operations research within transport, health care, financial engineering and maritime logistics.

Responsibilities and tasks
The successful candidates will work with applied research within the area of city logistics and electro mobility. More specifically, the candidates will be dealing with the introduction of electric vehicle fleets in two selected case companies in the city of Copenhagen, and the optimization of their logistics and transport activities. This while considering the traffic environment, the traffic congestion and energy consumption within the framework of the socio-economic conditions of the urban structure.

The specific research area of the postdoc should be able to contribute to the following tasks:

  • Design of simulation models to examine the operational performance of selected case studies
  • Implementation of a proof-of-concept analysis tool based on simulation methodology
  • Evaluation of the impacts of the case studies to propose a specific course of action for the case companies
  • Assessment of the potentials of the proposed methods using the simulation tool in order to develop a generic framework model

Qualifications
Candidates should hold the following qualifications:

  • Educational background and MSc & PhD degrees within e.g. industrial engineering and management, transport and logistics, supply chain management and/or applied operations research
  • Interest in city logistics, electro-mobility and supply chain management
  • Interest and experience within development of simulation models (e.g. discrete-event based simulation)
  • Relevant publication track record and participation in academic collaborations in relevant areas

Candidates should have a quantitative background and documented experience within programming/simulation modelling. Experience with techniques for multi-criteria decision-making is seen as a plus.

Furthermore, the successful candidate should also have demonstrated their ability to promote and disseminate research results to both academic and non-academic audiences.
