Researcher for Nanomaterials for Energy Applications

Department of Energy Conversion and Storage (DTU Energy) has 240 employees and carries out research on functional materials, components and systems and their applications for sustainable energy technologies. The technologies include fuel cells, electrolysis, solar cells, membranes, magnetic refrigeration and thermoelectrics.

We are seeking a motivated research scientist for the Section for Electrofunctional Materials, with an experience in synthesizing, characterizing and manipulating nanomaterials.

The position as researcher is a permanent entry-level position.

Responsibilities and tasks
The successful candidate is expected to contribute to the development of novel types of energy materials by engineering materials on the nanoscale. Core activities include, but are not limited to:

  • Development of energy materials using physical deposition techniques or chemical techniques.
  • Development and use of characterization techniques to probe the atomic, electronic and magnetic properties.
  • Applying external stimuli to tune material properties.
  • Supervision of young researchers at graduate and post graduate level in the above mentioned areas.
  • Participation in teaching in the area of nanotechnology and material science.

Qualifications

  • PhD in chemistry, physics, materials science or similar
  • Experience within one or more of the following areas:
    o Synthesizing materials with nanoscale dimensions
    o Surface treatments, lithographic patterning and thin film depositions.
    o Characterization of nanomaterials.
    o Exploiting material properties to design new devices or functionalities.
    o Modelling of components for energy conversion technologies using e.g. Matlab, COMSOL or density functional theory.
  • Experience in writing project applications
  • Experience in supervising students and young researchers
  • Good communication skills in English, both written and spoken

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed with the relevant union.
The position as researcher is a permanent entry-level position. After a maximum of 4 years, a researcher can be promoted to a senior researcher position after assessment. More information can be found here: Career paths at DTU.
